On Monday the 9th of March 2026, Krestine Hofstedt Rasmussen successfully defended her industrial PhD. The work was a collaboration between Aarhus University and the Danish company ROCKWOOL A/S. Krestine presented her work on the structural characterization of stone wool fibers during heating. The work gained new insights into nanoscale crystallization, diffusion mechanisms, and the elemental distribution within single fibers. Krestine combined X-ray techniques such as PXRD, PDF, and XAS with electron microscopy techniques such as FIB-SEM, SEM, 4D-STEM-EDX, and SAED to characterize the structural changes in the stone wool fibers on multiple length scales (from atomic to micrometer). Congratulations on the PhD degree. Krestine will continue her work at the university in a new position as Postdoc.
